As it follows, Emcore will get hold of the enterprise and storage assets of Intel’s optical storage unit, the Connects cables business. Plus a small bonus: a fiber optics networking supplier in Alburquerque, New Mexico.

Back in March, Intel took the first steps out of the flash memory business. The company announced the establishment of Numonyx ( a joint venture between Intel, Francisco Partners, and STMicrolectronics), to which the company aims to transfer most of its NOR and NAND flash assets .

Intel began this business spring cleaning in 2006, when sold its media and signaling business to Eicon Networks. The company also sold production rights to its XScale chip set to Marvell during the same year.
