The company will stop supporting the Microsoft-developed fromat on December 15, Netflix announced in a recent email. Starting then users will have all the HD DVD titles in their queues replaced with standard DVDs. If they’re available, of course.
"Last February, we announced that since most of the major movie studios had decided to release their high-definition movies exclusively in Blu-ray, we were going exclusively Blu-ray as well and would be phasing out our HD DVDs," reads the announcement.
It would be interesting to see what will happen with its HD DVD catalog. Will Netflix hold a garage sale?
All in all, Netflix now intends to focus back on DVDs, Blu-ray and the emerging streaming services. The company already manage to sing several promising partnerships and hopes are that the only way for the business will be up.
