Microsoft is losing the battle for Vista and the OS might end up labeled as a failure. Symantec is the latest company to take a swing as the OS.
The salvo was fired by Symantec CEO Enrique Salem during an interview with InformationWeek. Salem complained that its customers chose to ditch Vista (at least for the time being) and stick with the XP OS.
The recently-released Service Pack 1 was supposed to significantly boost the adoption of Windows Vista. But then again....
"For the most part, we're not seeing it...they're not yet comfortable with Vista," Salem stated. "We wish it was more popular."
As it follows, Symantec has decided to focus its development efforts on Windows 7, which is scheduled to be released in 2010. The move makes sense, given that several companies have publicly expressed their itnentions of upgrading directly to the next Windows OS instead of picking Vista for the time being.
Back in April Microsoft reported that its OEM license revenue was down 24% to $4 billon, as PC makers decided to slow down on buying new Vista licenses seeing that consumers were unwilling to adopt the new OS.
