Originally, the price for Toshiba’s A2 HD DVD player was around $500. Two days ago, the player was reported to lose $100 off its original price and retail for $198.
With Wal-Mart’s latest price drop now in sight, it has become rather clear that Toshiba is actually looking forward to clear up current A2 stocks so that the new A3 model would fill in the empty spot.
In the mean time, there’s some sadness in the Blu-ray camp. The high price of the player seems to be driving away retailers and Kmart is already reported to plan to exclusively support the HD DVD side.
The higher price of the Blu-ray devices continues to take its toll and other major retailer are more than likely to follow Kmart’s move in the near future if Sony and its allies don’t come up with a more wallet-friendly price range.
