"Sony was the first to introduce a travel-sized camcorder with 8 mm technology in the 1980’s, and it revolutionized the travel and electronics industries," said Kelly Davis, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics. "This new model is a great example of our expertise in miniaturization, as well as advanced imaging technologies with features like face detection."
According to the company, the HDR-TG1 Handycam can record 1920 x 1080 HD video and 4-megapixel digital photos, both of which are stored directly to Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo or PRO Duo Mark2 media cards.
One of the features of the new model is the face detection technology for video and stills, which can identify up to eight faces in the camcorder’s 2.7in touch-panel LCD screen, and thus, adjust focus, exposure, colour control and flash automatically.
The HDR-TG1 Handycam will come packed with a 4GB PRO Duo Mark2 media card and will retail in North America for around $900. Those willing to go for the optional travel kit (battery, travel charger and pouch) will have to shell $100 extra. for about $100.
