A report from TheInquirer.net goes as follows:

"Well placed sources tell us that Google is going to be buying Valve any second now. If you have to stop and think about why, you probably are not aware of Steam, Valve’s amazing content distribution platform."

It may just be that negotiations between the two companies are going on as we write. Google is always keen on getting its hands on new business territory and Steam is one appealing business. With such an ally, Google would become even more threatening for Microsoft, a company already defeated in the online war and who would indeed mind having a competitor on what it thought to be one of its turfs.

On the other hand, Valve’s management is known for its independent views. Gabe Newell stated several times that Valve is better off suitors. Then again, Google may just come up with the right offer…
