Motorola Labs Shrinks To 300
Published on Telecom  |  June 16, 2008, 16:36

Motorola has been on a rough ride for some time and the finish line is nowhere is sight: the company announced that Motorola Labs will be halved in the very near future.

The move is part of Motorola's plan to cut costs.

As it follows, 150 researchers will be looking for a new job, while another 180 others will be relocated to various departments within the company.

In the end, Motorola Labs will be left with only 300 staffers, those that are already involved in long-term “can't cancel yet” research projects.

The company also plans to rename Motorola Labs into "Applied Research & Technology Center", which will be lead by Dan Moloney.

Motorola has yet to announce the projects and the researchers that made the black list. However, do expect that anyone and anything related to the mobile phone business to be axed first, given that Motorola already admitted its plans to get rid of this branch one way or another.
