According to a report on the French site ElectronLibre, Apple should announce today that three major music catalogs have become DRM-free. The website adds that the companies convinced by Apple to accept such drastic measures are Universal Music, SonyBMG et Waner Music.

Last but not least, the “no DRM” move should be made worldwide at the same time.

At press time, this looks like a “half right, half wrong” report. It’s quite possible that the 3 music giants would agree at some point to completely give up on DRM. Apple began this process a long time ago, other online music retailers followed soon.

Music files with no DRM software are clearly the way to do business in the online era and nobody can deny that. However, it’s hard to believe that such a drastic change would take place anytime soon, especially today.
