According to NBC, "Heroes" and "The Office" will be the first productions to become available on Amazon’s digital distribution service. New content will follow on September 10, with pilot episodes of "Chuck" and "Bionic Woman" set to be distributed for free.
The episodes, which will be made available without commercials one day after their original airing on TV.
At present time the prices will stay the same as on Apple’s iTunes, $1.99 per episode. Still, customers will be able to purchase an entire season of a show at one time.
NBC and Apple decided to end their partnership last week, after strongly disagreeing on financial aspects. Back then Apple stated that this happened because it “declined to pay more than double the wholesale price for each NBC TV episode, which would have resulted in the retail price to consumers increasing to $4.99 per episode from the current $1.99.”
NBC has since then denied this statement and only mentioned Apple’s inflexible price policy as the reason of its departure. Currently the prices on Amazon are the same as they were on the iTunes, but only time will tell if they are to be kept this way or not.
