“The Wall Street Journal Online is adding Digg buttons across the entire site, and you’ll now have full (free) access to the articles submitted to Digg. The Digg buttons have started appearing on WSJ.com articles tonight.”
In addition, WSJ owner Rupert Murdoch was reported recently of stating that subscriptions will soon become something of the past.
Hopes got higher and higher, but those who ventures onto the site were in for a sudden awakening: at present time the WSJ remains unchaged, still split in two: pulbic stories and subscribers-only content. Furthermore, the Digg buttons are mostly nowhere to be seen.
In conclusion, something must be cooking alright, but the pot has been pushed aside from the fire, at least for the time being.
Still, rest asured that the policy will be dropped sooner or later. The number of people willing to pay for online content is getting smaller and smaller and such an enterprise will just have to rely on advertising in order to make a profit.
