According to Nintendo Australia, the handheld consoles reached the above-mentioned milestone in 153 weeks. In the mean time, the Wii is now the fastest console to reach the 300,000 unit milestone in Australian market history, with a record of only 58 weeks.

The officials didn’t act to surprised to hear the news, especially since the Wii had already equaled the record set by Xbox 360.

But speaking of figures alone, the DS sold 509,869 units during the past year, with December being the best month – 133,691 units. The Wii’s statistics for December show only 73,318 units, but let’s not forget we are talking about the same console constantly plagued by shortages issues.

All in all, Nintendo’s consoles sit comfortably on the first two spots in the top, a performance that gets more meaning if one should recall that, before the release of these two, Australia was anything but an important market for Nintendo.
