According to a Macworld report, Apple spokesman Bill Evans had to say the following:

"We have removed the KnowledgeBase article because it was old and inaccurate. The Mac is designed with built-in technologies that provide protection against malicious software and security threats right out of the box.”

However the PR department would have to say, one thing was clear: Apple suggestion page went clearly against the campaign ran by the Cupertino company. Apple has been busy telling everyone that the PC needs special software to protect itself from threats, while the Mac is more or less immune.

Now, Apple has sweetened its tone and Evans admitted that “no system can be 100% immune from every threat”. Therefore, Apple users should think twice before dismissing any thoughts of purchasing antivirus software.

Should Apple gain even more market share, then we’re sure to see a rise in malware designed to break Macs. We wonder what will Apple’s official message will be at that time.
