Chinese users trying to access the video site only get as far a blank screen. Other sites featuring news about the Tibet events have also been blacklisted, including the BBC, The Guardian and Flickr.
Needless to say, video sites located in China do not host such content.
"In terms of the media there is no question that the Chinese Government has imposed a lockdown of what they consider sensitive information or video footage," Ying Chan, journalism and media studies director at the University of Hong Kong, told Al Jazeera. "We are relying on tourists, citizens sending information out."
The tactic is not new to Chinese authorities, whom have previously stated that video sharing sites should be under the control of the state. Because the state knows better and the citizens should know nothing, we guess.
