"Warner Brothers’ move to exclusively release in the Blu-ray disc format is a strategic decision focused on the long-term and the most direct way to give consumers what they want," said Barry Meyer, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. "The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger."
Warner’s statement was soon followed by one from New Line Cinema. While the word might’ve been different, the idea was basically the same: “no more HD DVD, we and Blu-ray are going steady”.
The two announcements are most certainly a hard blow for the HD DVD camp. Up till now, the only reaction from the HD DVD Promotional Group was a brief statement announcing that several press meetings at CES have been canceled. Discussions about what are the new plans for the formats are certainly under way. Question is: which company will leave next?
