According to data from research firm NPD, the console took the gold medal with 375,000 sold units, significantly ahead of both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
The latter finished second with 269,000 units, while the Microsoft gaming device had to settle for the third place (230,000 units).
Nintendo also scored high in the handheld department. The DS beat once again Sony’s PlayStation Portable, with 251,000 sold units. However, unlike the Wii, this time the race was rather close, with the PSP selling only 21,000 less consoles (230,000).
There’s also a bit of bad news for everyone in the industry: NPD reports that video games sales were below the results achieved in January 2007.
