Chinese Hacker Logs In His Cell For 2 Years
Published on Security  |  July 15, 2008, 11:17

Chinese authorities sentenced Yang Litao to two years imprisonment for hacking into a Red Cross website.

According to local media, Yang, age 23, was found guilty of fraud by a court in eastern Jiangsu province. He attempted to walk away with the funds collected for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake.

The prosecutors stated that Yang first managed to get hold of the site administrator's username and password and used the credentials to modify the details so that the donations for the victims would arrive in his own bank account instead of the official one.

In addition, the Chinese man infected to site with malware and thus, put the site offline for 72 hours.

The good news, the prosecutors claim, is that the hacker was arrested soon enough to prevent the transfer of significant funds to his account.
