Up till now Apple used to stress out the fact that malware is not a big issue with Mac computers. In fact, malicious software was not even an issue worth mentioning it too often. But things seem to have changed in the mean time.

An recent update to Apple’s support site makes it crystal clear: use whatever possible to keep malware away from your machines. Don’t stop at one antivirus software, to take in consideration the various means of software attack:

“Apple encourages the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities so that virus programmers have more than one application to circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing process more difficult.”

The company recommends that its users take several anti-malware software into consideration:
– Intego VirusBarrier X5, available from the Apple Online Store
– Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 11 for Macintosh, available from the Apple Online Store
– McAfee VirusScan for Mac

Interesting enough, all the recommended software are priced offers. Doesn’t Apple know any antivirus software that comes with a free version?
