The Steam Cloud service will enable players to enjoy the same set of system settings, multiplayer configuration, and saved game data, no matter on which computer they log in to Steam. Players save the desired info on the company’s servers and then simply retrieve it when needed.

The bad news is, however, that at least one feature will be missing from the first version of Steam Cloud: game saves support. The feature will be implemented later on, but there’s no exact word from Valve about the actual date.

Left 4 Dead will be the first game to support the new feature, with previous releases scheduled to adopt it in the near future. Furthermore, Valve stated that the service will be free to use for both player and developers that may wish to include such support in their releases.

If Valve pays its cards right, the feature might turn into a real booster for the popularity of its distribution service.
