Pro-Tibet Malware Disguises As Cartoon
Published on Security  |  April 15, 2008, 16:04

Stay away from from a certain Olympics-related cartoon or you'll be sharing more than your sympathy for the cause of Tibet

A movie file dubbed "RaceForTibet.exe" has been making rounds over the net and arrived in various inboxes. Officially, we're only talking about a cartoon meant to ridicule the Chinese gymnast team at the Olympic games, plus several images supporting a free Tibet

However, this movie does not arrive alone. While it's being played, a keylooger quielty installs itself on the computer and gets ready to send all the soon-t-be-gathered data to a computer located in China.

What's more, the malware is hidden by rootkit functionality, thus being a read headache to be detected and removed.

The good news (sort of) is that this malware only affects Windows PC machines. Then again, so does the vast majority of existing malware.
