Id software has given up on Hitler for this edition of Wolfenstein. The game will arrive on all three major platforms, but the dictator won't get the chance to get shot down this time.
The news was unveiled to id software's lead artist Kevin Cloud during an Eurogamer interview:
"No, he's not in our game," he said with a smile. "We've got to save something for future Wolfensteins. We can't do him in yet!"
"That's one of the cool things again about the Wolfenstein universe: we go back and we pull some of these things from real history and spin this what-if story for some of it, and some of it just kind of blows out," he said.
"So like the Kreisau Circle originally is more of a group of aristocrats working behind the scenes in hopes to overthrow Hitler. Here, they're gun-toting resistance forces fighting on the streets. But it's kind of nice to take those elements, have a framework of reality, and build it out."
In other words, fans will have to get back to the original Wolfenstein classic if they wish an encounter with a robotic version of Hitler. In the next game, hero BJ Blazkowicz will have to prevent the Nazis from further using n ultimate energy source, called the Black Sun.
Using such a power causes the appearance of the Veil, a rift between dimensions, as well as granting out hero several special powers.
