New Koobface Version Hits The Web Right In The Facebook
Published on Security  |  March 3, 2009, 13:34

Facebook and other social networking websites have been attacked by a new version of the Koobface worm.

Dubbed WORM_KOOBFACE.AZ, the new malware will seek all the friends of an infected user and spam them with invitations to watch a certain video. The link to the video will take unsuspecting victims to a website where users are told that they need an updated version of Adobe Flash Player plugin to view the clip.

Savvy websurfers already know that such lines are always a prelude to a virus infection. The so-called update the user downloads is actually packed with the Trojan code, wich will later be used to create a a back-door on infected computers running Windows.

The following websites are known to be already under malware fire, so be careful when receiving video invitations:

- facebook
- hi5
- friendster
- myyearbook
- myspace
- bebo
- tagged
- netlog
- fubar
- livejournal
