MySpace Harraser Pleads Not Guilty
Published on Internet  |  June 18, 2008, 14:48

Lori Drew, the US woman accused of cyberbullying a a girl up to the point when the latter commited suicide, pleaded not guilty at her trial.

She was charged by US prosecutors under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. If found guilty, Drew could end up behind bars for five years for conspiracy, plus an extra five years for three other charges.

According to investigators, Drew, 49, created a fake MySpace profile dubbed “Josh Evans”, a profile she used to make a fake friendship with 13 year-old Megan Meier.

Later on, she used the same account to send Megan a series of nasty messages, allegedly culminating with “the world would be a better place without you”. As a result, the teenager hanged herself.

Drew was allowed to be released on bail and will be back on court later this month.
