Malware Has Obama Give Up His Presidential Chair
Published on Security  |  January 21, 2009, 14:02

There are always enough websurfers looking for sensational/hard to believe stories, so don't be amazed if spammers now try to spread malware with a new line: Barack Obama refused to become President of the United States.

The spam emails come with different subject lines (“End-time for USA”, “Who will be our president now?” or “What will be with our country?” are just a handful of exemples) but always direct the naïve user to the same website.

The site is a clone of the official Barrack Obama website and features one bogus story written in Engrish:

“Barack Obama’s inauguration that was planned on 20th January 2009 is under the threat of failure. On the Eve of Inauguration Day President-elect Barack Obama made statement. He declared that he is definitely NOT ready for this position. Analysts say that Barack Obama has refused to be next president because he recognized inconsistency of his plan of stimulating USA economy.”

Those unlucky enough to be reading the story on the bogus website will found out sooner or later that they have been infected with the WaledJs-A malware, which will later attempt to download and execute several filenames and scripts.

The good news is that Barack Obama’s inauguration is already old news, so chances are that almost nobody will fall for this cheap trick.
