Facebook Sued By Angry Principal
Published on Internet  |  May 12, 2008, 14:42

Tough break for the pranksters who set up a fake Facebook profile for the dean of an Indianapolis Catholic prep school: Facebook was ordered by the court to turn over all the data needed to identify them.

The social networking website was sued by Dean Tim Puntarelli of Roncalli High School after the site refused to unveil the required information.

Still, Puntarelli's claim that the face Facebook profile was a case of harassment and identity theft proved convincing enough for Marion Superior Court Judge Robyn Moberly, who ruled that the plaintiff must be given the data so that he (along with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, responsible for running the high school) could take the legal battle against the creators of the profile:

"The archdiocese hopes to resolve the issue as quickly as possible in order to restore damage done to Puntarelli's reputation and to prevent this type of identity theft from happening again," reads a statement sent by the  archdiocese.

The scandal began one month ago, when Facebook first received a complaint from Puntarelli about the bogus profile, which the dean said it had been used to send inappropriate"pictures and messages" to students.

Now with Facebook having its hands legally tied, the pranksters better be hoping for a miracle. Then again, word goes that rascals have little chance of that to actually happen.
