Apple Sued For Patent Infringement

The lawyers in Cupertino will have to go to court due to a new patent infringement lawsuit filed by Elan Microelectronics.

The plaintiff filed its complaint in the Northern District of California and claims that Apple infringed on two of its US touchscreen patents.

According to Elan’s filing, the first  patents tobeing violated by the Apple’s products is the "Multiple finger contact sensing method for emulating mouse buttons and mouse operations on a touch sensor pad”. The company points the legal finger at iBooks, Powerbooks and Macbooks, as well as iPhones and iPod Touches.

The second Elan patent in discussion is the one for "Capacitive touchpad integrated with key and handwriting functions," and the company’s nominees for infringing products are the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

Elan Microelectronics seek an injunction on the above-mentioned products, as well as damages. Furthermore, the company also asks the court to make Apple pay the plaintiff’s court expenses and attorney fees.
